De Kuyper was founded in 1695 on the marriage of Petrus de Kuyper, son of the progenitor of the partly noble family. De Kuijper, and Anna Custers. The current owners are direct descendants of this couple. In 1729, the company moved to Rotterdam. They also bought a distillery in Schiedam, the centre of the gin production at that time. De Kuyper was completely export-oriented. Only small quantities were sold via ‘den looper’. In 1827, Matthew Clark & Sons in London was a very important customer. Clark not only bought for England, but also for the English colonies. The Canadians also bought large quantities of jenever. In 1910, the firm De Kuyper built a new distillery on the land in Schiedam that they had bought in 1893.
In the 1930s, De Kuyper made almost twenty types of liqueurs, including apricot brandy, cherry brandy, triple sec and crème de menthe.
Grünbeck was commissioned to replace the existing softener plant. The existing softening plant was old and did not work properly anymore. Since the Kuyper’s request could be solved with two 12 m3/h softener systems, the Kuyper could always be provided with 12 m3/h of softened water in case of problems. The salt and rinse water savings also appealed to the Kuyper. The entire installation, from demolition of the old one to delivery, took 3 days. This to the full satisfaction of the client.
Supply, install new system, mechanical and electrical installation, commissioning.
The existing softening plant was old and no longer worked properly. The old plant had also become too small, as the demand for softened water had increased over the years. To solve the Kuyper’s problem, Grünbeck opted for a 12 m3/h softening plant. Because the pre-pressure is not constant, Grünbeck placed a speed-controlled pressure increase in front of the installation, so that the pressure over the installation always remains constant now. The salt and rinse water savings also appealed to De Kuyper. The entire installation, from demolition of the old one to completion, took 3 days. This to the full satisfaction of the client.
